A House Stacked with Memories

Old books can transport you into a world of memories
Anukriti Sharma @ Walterre, Dehradun
It is strange how little things remind you of your loved ones. A forgotten rose found pressed in the pages of a book--the fragrance is lost and so is the relationship. A self-painted card given by a long lost friend, hidden in a stack of old papers--he is dead but his memories are not. A song that reminds you of a family trip through the winding roads of India--Pukarta chala hun main. Clothes washed in Surf Excel Matic bring back memories--they smell so much like Maa. A wristwatch gifted by my two beautiful room-mates--shows how time has flown by so quickly. Laughter and smiles--can time bring them back? The drawers are filled with little trinkets my sister used to wear--little earrings, bracelets, and scarves. She is far away yet so close to me.

Living alone in a house stacked with memories is not easy. But these memories are all I have. And these memories are all I want to live with.

When you live alone, you realize that nobody's going to wake you up in the morning, nobody's going to share meals with you, nobody's going to laugh and cry with you.

Mussoorie
When you live alone in a house where your family lived, you realize the importance of memories.
Every night when I pat myself to sleep, I imagine Mummy singing lullabies to me. Every time I watch an animation movie, I imagine Papa sitting next to me, laughing out loudly. Every day when I want to hold someone in my arms, I clasp my pillow and imagine my sister giving me bear hug.

When life slows me down, only memories help me live.
Mussoorie
Music transports me to Calcutta and Lucknow where we, as a family, used to listen to ghazals every evening played on an old gramophone record player. Sung by Jagjit and Chitra Singh, Begum Akhtar, Mehdi Hassan, Ghulam Ali, and Rajendra and Nita Mehta, these ghazals have a sense of belonging and often remind me of home.

I have never lived in one house for long - we moved so much, almost every three years becuz of my dads job - now after marriage its the same - but we've carried out furniture, the pics and so much - but if I lived now in the house I grew up in, every corner would have a tale.... oh how I loved this post of yours...
